How many of us always say, “Oh, I’ll start my diet on Monday.”?  I can’t count how many times those words have come out of my mouth.  At least I haven’t given up.  I went to the gym and rode the bike for 30 minutes.  And I am now having a strawberry, banana, pineapple smoothie that I made myself.  I added 15 drops of Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE) to the smoothie.  I try to slip in any extra-healthiness that I can.

I made a committment last week to start exercising at our local Y.  The trainer has started me on two days a week for 30 minutes on the bike and taking one class or an extra bike session.  I have to try and get my heart rate up to 126 in order for me to start burning calories.  I have found that difficult.  I get to 123 when my session is about to end.  I am not certain if the heart rate is supposed to get slower or faster as I get healthier.  I have found riding the bike to be a great starting point.  My slight problem is that sometimes my arms and legs go numb.  I don’t know if that is due to the moderately severe osteoarthritis that I have at the base of my spine or not.  I noticed I had to stop at 22 minutes in order to shake out the numb feeling in the leg.  But I did get right back on and continued to 32 minutes.

I have found it easier to go to the gym right after I drop off my boys at school.  That way I feel that I still have the full day ahead of me, I can get smelly before I take my shower. Otherwise, I would be taking my shower first and then going to work out and then taking a shower again.  No thank you, that is too time consuming for me!  Next week I will be doing the treadmill.

The grapefruit seed extract is actually what I had heard from the Julia Roberts segment on Oprah for washing off the toxins from vegetable and fruit.  I then read the label and it seems to do a bit of everything!  It is supposed to help the throat, nasal passage, skin irritations, nails, scalp, ear and it also can be a facial cleanser.  Around the home it can help clean toothbrushes, veg and fruit, cutting boards or all purpose.  If you add it to juice or water (I prefer juice because it does have a very bitter taste), it supposed to neautralize the body.  We’ll see how it all goes and hope that I don’t get a bad allergic reaction to it!
